[1] This inscribed theatre seat, now lost, was found in the nineteenth century in the modern area of Vari. This inscription adds weight to the identification of this region with the ancient deme Anagyrous, since the dedicant here is attested in the dedication by a board of officials, IG II³ 4, 63 l. 1, as an Anagyrasian. The theatre itself is unlocated, but other inscriptions pointing to the celebration of Rural Dionysia at Anagyrous include two choregic dedications (IG I³ 969 [for tragedy] and IG II³ 4, 507 [for comedy]), and possibly the honorific decree IG II² 1210.
