[1] Textual note: Peek in IG II³ suggests that the restoration of the first two lines should be something like [δειν’ ἐφέπει γ]ενε[ὰ]ν ἀνδ[ρῶν: ὡς κἀγω ἐτύφθην ]|[ ἐκ μεγάλ]ὼμ πετρῶν Ἠγεμόνο[ς γεγαὼς] | Ἀν[τιμέδω]ν “[terrible things pursue] the race of men, [as I, being] Hegemon’s son An[timedon, was struck by massive] rocks, but having been saved...” (however, the shift from first to third person is awkward). The final word of l. 4 is probably ε[ὐτυχίαν] "good fortune."

This rectangular plaque, consisting of a relief scene with a dedicatory inscription in elegiac couplets in the upper right corner, was dedicated in the sanctuary of Asklepios on the south slope of the Acropolis (see IG II³ 4, 665 with notes). In the relief, Asklepios and two of his daughters stand at left, facing a small, bearded man in the centre of the relief, wearing a pileus hat and a chiton, who grips Asklepios’ left forearm with his right hand. He is probably the dedicator. Behind him, at right, are two horses attached to a cart. On this relief see N. Kaltsas, Sculpture in the National Archaeological Museum (2002), 140, no. 267. The text seems to indicate that the dedicator had recovered from an injury caused by large rocks. The relief might indicate that a cart was also involved. L. 2 might identify him as the driver of the wagon (hegemon), but this could also be the name Hegemon.
