The People of the Athenians (erected this statue of) [Lucius] Aemilius Paulus, son of Paulus, Lepidus, their own benefactor (5) and saviour,^[1] when the priest was Pammenes son of Zenon of Marathon,^[2] when the manager of the island was -on son of Markos of Philaidai.^[3]

[1] This is one of several statue bases erected by the Athenians for Augustus and his family on Athenian-administered Delos (see I Délos 1588 with notes). It commemorates Lucius Aemilius Paulus Lepidus, a great-nephew of the triumvir Marcus Aemilius Lepidus and husband of Augustus' grand-daughter Julia the Younger. He is also commemorated in IG II² 4146. He was consul in 1 AD along with his brother-in-law Gaius Caesar, but was executed for participating in the conspiracy of Plautius Rufus, probably in 6 AD (Suetonius Augustus 19; Scholia to Juvenal 6.158). Their descendants are attested as senators and consuls through the second century AD and included Domitia Longina, the empress of Domitian. The base was found to the north of the Temple of Apollo on Delos. [2] On Pammenes, see IG II³ 4, 10 with notes. [3] After the Romans gave Delos to the Athenians in 167 BC, they sent out an Athenian citizen each year to manage the emporium and sanctuary. This particular manager is not otherwise attested.
