[1] This fragment appears to be a fragment from the architrave of a fountain building at the sanctuary of Demeter and Kore at Eleusis, recording the construction of a fountain and aqueduct by an emperor. It probably derives from the Roman fountainhouse located on the southeast side of the great court next to the eastern Gate of the Panhellenes (see IG II³ 4, 217-218 with notes). This structure was built around the same time as the Gate and has close stylistic similarities to the Library of Hadrian in Athens, so it was probably begun under Hadrian (r. 117-138 AD), but may only have been completed under Antoninus Pius (r. 138-161 AD).
