[1] This is the lower left hand corner of an inventory of a sanctuary or sanctuaries. The reference to Hygieia in l. 2 suggests an Asklepieion, perhaps the hypothesised sanctuary of Asklepios and Hygieia within the City Eleusinion (on which see IG II³ 4, 1834 with notes). The reference to Theseus in l. 3-4 suggests the Theseion, also located in the area (see IG II³ 4, 1503 with notes). But it is unclear why items from two sanctuaries would appear in a single set of accounts. The findspot in the Agora might indicate that the treasury recorded in the inscription was nearby, but the stone was found in a modern house, so it could have come down from the Acropolis or further afield after antiquity. The inscription is in the old Attic alphabet, which indicates a date before 403/2 BC, but the orthography and lettering are more typical of the early fourth century. [2] The stater was a denomination of coinage used in several cities, including Kyzikos, Corinth, and Aigina.
