[being responsible for?] both the [preservation of the district] and of those [citizens?] residing in it; and continues to say and do (15) whatever good he can [on their behalf]; and constructed for the security of the district . . . a guard-house (pulōrion), spending his own resources on it; so, therefore, that those elected to (20) this office may know that [the Eleusinians] and those [Athenians] who reside at Eleusis give thanks to those who display love of honour (philotimoumenois) towards them, [for good fortune, the Eleusinians and those residing at Eleusis shall decide] (25) . . . . . .
