Philokrates son of Philis- 5 allotted under-secretary Pausias, allotted herald Philo-^[2] and those stationed at the generals' headquarters^[3] and the man in charge of the sacrifices Telephanes . . . 10 having crowned the generals who were in office in the archonship of E-, dedicated this.^[4]

[1] This seems to be a dedication by the officers of the general staff. In inscriptions of this period, hegemon is usually a generic term which can be used for the leader of Athenian troops and of non-Athenian troops (G. J. Oliver, War, Food, and Politics in Early Hellenistic Athens, 2007, 183). [2] For military secretaries, cf. IG II³ 4, 282. For the selection of heralds by lot, cf. Agora XVI 48 ll. 14-16 and schol. in Aischin. 1.20. [3] Cf. IG II³ 4, 268. [4] Tracy identifies the inscriber as the "Cutter of IG II² 1326", active 199/8-176/5 BC (Tracy, ALC 94). The following archons are possibilities in that general period: Euthykritos (189/8), Eupolemos (185/4), Eunikos (169/8) and possibly E[uandros] (cf. IG II³ 1, fasc. 5, p. 292).
