[1] This statue base is part of a group erected for Emperor Hadrian (r. 117-138 AD) in the precinct of the Temple of Olympian Zeus by delegations from cities throughout the Roman Empire to celebrate Hadrian's consecration of the temple in 132 AD (see IG II² 3290 with notes). Pompeiopolis in Cilicia was called Soloi until 67 BC. Hadrian visited Cilicia in 131 AD and Pompeiopolis probably erected a statue for him and minted coinage on this occasion (A. Çalık Anatolian Studies 46, 1996, 83-89; cf. RPC 3246). The inscription is known only from reports of pre-modern travellers and the names of the envoys in ll. 4-5 appear corrupt or incomplete.
