The Areopagos Council and the Council of the Six Hundred and the People of the Athenians (erected this statue of) Julius Nikanor ⟦New Homer⟧ (5)⟦and New Themistokles⟧.^[1]

[1] This is one of a series of statue bases for the first-century AD benefactor, Julius Nikanor “the New Homer and New Themistokles,” on whom see IG II² 1069. As in most other inscriptions mentioning him, the extravagant titles have been erased. There are cuttings on top for a less than life-sized statue.
