Honours for a son of Eupor-

In the archonship of -, in the - prytany, of A-, for which . . . was secretary. On the twenty-seventh (tetradi phthinontos) . . . (5) the - of the prytany. [Of the presiding committee (proedrōn)] . . . was putting to the vote. The Council and People decided. Lykourgos son of Lykophron of Boutadai^[1] proposed: concerning what -s (10) says, the Council shall decide: that the [presiding committee (proedrous)] allotted to preside at the next Assembly shall bring him before the People and put his case on the agenda, and submit the opinion (15) of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council, since -s son of Eupor-^[2] . . . . . .

[1] Lykourgos proposed eight self-standing laws and decrees that survive on stone, more than any Athenian politician before 321 BC except for Demades, and there are three others referred to elsewhere in the epigraphical record. This very fragmentary decree is probably the earliest. Unusually for a prominent politician, the decree is probouleumatic, indicating that this year was one of the two in which he served on the Council. At this period Athenians could be councillors only twice in a lifetime. There is also a posthumous inscribed decree honouring Lykourgos, IG II² 457 + 3207, q.v.. [2] The name suggests the honorand was probably not an Athenian.
