[1] This set of three inscriptions were inscribed on one of the numerous allocated seats in the theatre of Dionysos at Athens (on the seats for priests and other dignitaries, proedria, in this theatre see IG II³ 4, 1938). This marble "throne" was engraved on three different occasions: inscription I was erased and is now completely lost; inscription II was partially reused and some of its text is still readable; and inscription III, also partially reused, indicates that this was the allocated seat for the priest of Artemis Kolainis. Both II and III can be dated on palaeographical grounds. An officiant of Artemis Kolainis also possessed another allocated seat, not as prominent, in a different section of the theatre, on which see IG II³ 4, 1976. This seat may in effect have superseded that one; or they belonged to different officiants (cf. Bultrighini), perhaps the city priest and the priest in Myrrhinous, or IG II³ 4, 1976 may have belonged to a priestess (Lambert).

There were cults of Artemis Kolainis in the deme Myrrhinous and in the city (see IG II² 1182, ll. 18-20, with note).
