The Council in the archonship of Agathokles (357/6) dedicated to the twelve gods,^[1] having been crowned by the Athenian People for its excellence (aretēs) and justice (dikaiosunēs).

Pythokritos son of Xenokles of Koile and Alexandros son of Theodotos of Pallene dedicated.

[1] This is one of three dedications of the year 357/6 BC which are the earliest dated dedications to refer to the crowning of officials by the Council and/or People. The other two are IG II³ 4, 57 and IG II³ 4, 245. Lambert, AIO Papers 9, sect. 2, suggests that the purpose of this dedication was to inaugurate, by example, a "new style" that was henceforth to apply to all dedications by councillors, Council prytanies and other officials over whom the Council exercised oversight. On dedications by the Council from before 307/6 BC see AIO 2776. On the altar and cult of the twelve gods in the Agora see IG I³ 951; Agora III 119-22; RO 41, ll. 8-9 with n. 5. The base was reused in i AD and there is trace of a cutting for insertion of a votive in this secondary use.
