Seleukos son of Maarkos of Marathon (dedicated this)^[1] when he was general in charge of equipment in the city (strategōn epi tēn paraskeuēn tēn en astei).^[2]

[1] Seleukos was a victor in the Theseia of 153/2 and gymnasiarch on Delos in 129/8 (Athenian Onomasticon s. v. Seleukos). Marcus, like some other common Roman names, e.g. Gaius, Lucius and Quintus, became fashionable for Athenian citizens in the second and particularly the first century BC (Athenian Onomasticon s. v. Roman citizens begin to participate in Athenian civic life in the late second century BC (see AIUK 2 (BSA), no. 8) and in the mid-first century BC many Roman citizens received Athenian citizenship (see Agora XV 272 with notes).
