[1] On dedications by gymnasiarchs see IG II³ 4, 426, with notes. Characteristically of gymnasiarchic dedications, this has the form of a stepped base surmounted by a moulding with a round cutting for insertion of a columella. The dedication commemorates victory in the torch-race at the Great Panathenaia and the absence of a demotic is consistent with erection in the gymnasiarch's local deme (in the sanctuary of Athena Hippia at Acharnai?). The name Stratokles is otherwise unattested in Acharnai.
