[1] This fragmentary marble stele is a Roman-period choregic dedication (see IG II³ 4, 558 with notes). The first line is in prose and the rest of the text is in elegiac couplets. The name of the victorious tribe is not preserved, but it was probably Ptolemais, since the poetic meter in l. 6 will only allow Hippothontis, Ptolemais, or perhaps Akamantis, and since Berenikidai, the deme of the individual whose name is lost in l. 5, belonged to Ptolemais. The reference to twelve tribes places the inscription before 121/2 AD, when a thirteenth tribe, Hadrianis, was introduced. [2] The missing parts of lines 2-7 should include: the name of the sponsor (choregos) in l. 2, the name of the individual who decided the victor (probably the eponymous archon) in l. 4 or 5, the name of the victorious tribe or tribes in l. 6, the name of a flute-player from one of the many cities named Laodikeia in l. 7, and perhaps the name of the director (didaskalos) in l. 5
