Decree of Rhamnous honouring the general Diomedes, 301/0 BC

Philokrates son of Philokles of Rhamnous proposed:^[1] for good fortune, that the Rhamnousians shall decide, since Diomedes son of Diodoros of Ptelea, having been elected general by the Athenian (5) People, took care of the Rhamnousians well and [with love of honour (philotimōs)], saving the fort for the Rhamnousians and the Athenian People, to praise Diomedes son of Diodoros [and crown him with a gold crown?] . . .

[1] Textual Note. AIO's text follows previous editions, but assumes that the decree continued for more than one line beyond the point at which the stone breaks off after l. 8. The missing portion will have included wording providing for the inscription. The text of l. 9, e.g. whether the honorand's demotic was given, is also uncertain.

Previous editors dated this decree honouring the general Diomedes to the mid-3rd century BC, but Knoepfler has argued convincingly that he is identifiable as the Diomedes who is named as general in the decree of soldiers of 301/0 BC honouring their chiliarchs, I Rhamnous 1, and that the proposer of this decree was the Philokrates son of Philokles named on I Rhamnous 197 of the late 4th century BC.
