[1] On ephebic dedications cf. IG II³ 4, 329 with notes. Since Philokrates (l. 8) belongs to Leontis (IV) rather than Pandionis (III) he is not one of the ephebes or a tribal officer: he may have been a didaskalos ("instructor"), cf. previous line. His name, however, was preceded by some additional text (description of his specialism?). Friend would see him rather as one of the managers of Attic fortifications (epimeletai hoi en tois phrouriois), who are also mentioned in his T15.

The ephebes of Pandionis here dedicate a votive in the sanctuary of Nemesis at Rhamnous, after they have been honoured by the Council and People and the Rhamnousians, the Eleusinians and the Phylasians (men of Phyle); they had apparently been stationed in these demes during their second year of ephebic service. The inscription can probably be dated between 333/2 and 324/3 BC, like the other inscriptions in which lochagoi (cadet captains, ll. 3-6) are mentioned (cf. IG II³ 4, 334, IG II³ 4, 337). The top of the base shows a quadrangular cavity for the insertion of a votive. [SMK] [2] This inscription is the only evidence for activity of Phyle, a small deme of the coastal trittys of Oineis which sent two men to the Council in the 4th century BC (IG II³ 4, 56, ll. 6-8; three men from Phyle are named on the list of uncertain type which generally names one-and-a-half times the number of men a deme supplied to the Council, Agora XV 492, 96-99; see also Agora XV 54). It was located on Mt Parnes close to the Boeotian border and was or contained a fortified stronghold by at least 403 BC (Xen. Hell. 2.4.2; remains of fortifications belonging to the deme have been identified). This inscription shows that in the ephebate as it was created or refashioned in the 330s BC it was a location where ephebes were stationed; for other evidence for it as a location for military units, cf. I Eleusis 194-198, 205, 207, 211; IG II³ 4, 281. It was the place at which the popular movement which ousted the Thirty in 403 BC was based, cf. AIO 1190 (which lists several deme members).
