Hagnotheos son of Diodoros^[1] proposed: since the treasurer and the religious officials (hieropoioi) in the archonship of Ambrosios (290/89?)^[2] performed their offices well and with love of honour (philotimōs), (5) and offered all the sacrifices, and . . . the construction (?) (oikodomias) . . .

[1] On the deme Halai Aixonides and its inscriptions see RO 46, with notes. With SEG 49.142 and SEG 49.143, this is one of three fragmentary decrees from the deme's Aphrodision. It seems that it may relate to building works. The proposer, Hagnotheos son of Diodoros, was most likely grandson of the Hagnotheos who was father of Euphiletos and Diodoros, two of the men responsible for making a new statue of Aphrodite in IG II³ 4, 223, ll. 13, 16; see Steinhauer, 239-40. For treasurers in this deme and others see SEG 59.142, with notes. Hieropoioi ("religious officials") are firmly attested in this deme only here, though they also appear in Kourinou's new reading of IG I³ 249, and were initially also restored at SEG 59.142, ll. 9-10. [2] For the (uncertain) date of this archon, attested only here, see IG II³ 1, fasc. 4 p. 296. This is one of two decrees of this deme which, unusually for decrees of demes that did not contain border forts, are datable to the 3rd century BC (though the other two small decree fragments from the Aphrodision may date to the same period). The other one is from the other major sanctuary of this deme, that of Apollo Zoster, SEG 38.124, q.v..
