[1] This base bears two different inscriptions from different eras. Tracy identifies the mason of the original inscription on Face A as the Cutter of IG II² 913, who was active ca. 210-170 BC and C. Habicht argues that the archonship of Euandros fell around 200 BC (Studien zur Geschichte Athens, 1982, 159). Amphiaraos, a healing hero originally from Oropos, also appears with Hygieia in IG II³ 1, 450. Timokles is not otherwise known; it is unclear whether he was a priest of Asklepios (Habicht, Studien, 163) or of Amphiaraos (S. Aleshire, Asklepios at Athens, 1991, 219). The later inscription, on the original back side of the base, dates to the second century AD. There are traces of a cutting for insertion of a statue on top.

This is one of five inscriptions found in the area north of the Acropolis around the Roman Agora, along with IG II³ 4, 873, 875, and IG II² 3782-3783. J. Riethmüller, Asklepios (2005) II 11-12, 18-19 proposes that they indicate that there was a sanctuary of Asklepios within the Diogeneion gymnasium, the headquarters of the Athenian ephebes in the Hellenistic and Imperial periods. Asklepios and the healing hero Telesphoros also appear in two ephebic catalogues (IG II² 2127 and 2227).
