[1] Several travellers saw this large kioniskos beside a road from Piraeus to Athens. It was eventually loaded onto the ship Hydra at the behest of Lord Elgin (cf. AIUK 4.1, no. 2), after some difficulties due to its size, and is now in the British Museum. On this style of monument see no. 57, with notes. Thrason appears again in a list of Athenian Pythaistai undertaking an unknown role in the embassy to Delphi under the archon Agathokles in 106/5 BC (FD III 2, 15, II.15). His father had another son, Hermogenes, who was commemorated with a kioniskos of similarly large dimensions found at the Kerameikos (IG II² 6460). The two brothers were buried in different cemeteries, assuming Thrason’s monument had not moved far from its findspot at or near Mounychia. Their deme of Kikynna has been tentatively located at modern Chalidou, between Sphettos and Aixone, and so neither brother was buried in the ancestral deme.
