[1] Textual Note. AIO's text of this inscription, which was first edited by B. D. Meritt, Hesp. 10, 1941, 42-49 no. 11, follows Agora XV. Meritt and Traill note that [οἱ φυλέτα]ι̣ ("the tribesmen") is a possible, but less likely, reading of 1 than [ἡ βουλ]ή̣. [τὸν ταμία]ν is also not quite certain in 2; but cf. IG II³ 1, 417. According to Meritt and Traill, the sign 𐅂 at the end of 9 was a false start for the name of the archon, Hegesias. S. Alessandrì, ΑSΝΡ 12, 1982, 66-67 (SEG 32.175), however, would interpret 8-10 as the name + patronymic + demotic of two councillors of the prytany of Erechtheis, restoring 9 as [ἐκ Κηδ]ῶν (from Kedoi), followed by the beginning of the name of the councillor listed in 10, his demotic occupying the beginning of the otherwise vacant line after 10. Though the eponymous archon is not otherwise mentioned at this period in the list of officials at the foot of Council and prytany inscriptions, Meritt and Traill's [arch]on in 9, is more attractive, given that the year of office of the prytany secretary in 17-18 is attested as the archonship of Hegesias, 324/3 BC: IG II³ 1, 371, 372, 373, and 374 (cf. Humphreys).

This is from a base (or stele, Alessandri) perhaps honouring the prytany treasurer. On this office at this period see IG II³ 1, 417, with notes. Whether members of a specific prytany (cf. IG I³ 515) or the whole Council (cf. AIO 2776) were commemorated elsewhere on the inscription or on other stones in the same monumental complex, is impossible to say. For the four secretaries listed in 11-21, cf. Agora XV 43, ll. 228, 229, 227 and for the epi tous nomous, note to l. 230.
