[1] The context seems to be the honouring of an allied city which had taken measures against "pirates" interfering with Athenian maritime trade. [Dem.] 58.53 (ca. 340 BC), referring to Moirokles, comments that he "wrote the decree against those harming the merchants, and persuaded not only you, but also our allies, to take protective measures against the wrongdoers". Moirokles, who was "Salaminios" as well as member of the deme Eleusis, was an active politician, whose prominence is demonstrated by his inclusion in some lists of men whose surrender was initially demanded by Alexander in 335 (Arrian, Anab. 1.10.4) and later among those alleged to have been bribed by Harpalos.
