[1] This is a dedication by the prytany of Leontis, which had won the competition for the best prytany in its year in office, as IG I³ 515 (Erechtheis). The dedication will have been set up in the tribal sanctuary of Leontis in or near the Agora (cf. U. Kron, Die zehn attischen Phylenheroen, 1976, 200-1, location recently identified by J. Camp, SEG 66.141) and later built into the medieval tower on the Acropolis over the south wing of the Propylaia. Like IG II³ 4, 23, the demes are listed in three columns corresponding to the city trittys (col. 1), coastal trittys (col. 2) and inland trittys (col. 3) of the tribe (cf. Traill, Demos and Trittys, 130-32). It is not clear that this is the same prytany as the one referred to as having dedicated in 370/69 in the inventory of a hero, SEG 29.146 II ll. 8-11 (-ntis), cf. D. M. Lewis, ZPE 36, 1979, 131-34, though the prosopography of the persons named in this inscription suggests a date in or around that year, cf. J. Traill, Hesp. 47 (1978), 92. For other dedications by the prytany of Leontis see IG II³ 4, 53; IG II³ 1, 417, accompanied by an inscribed Assembly decree. [2] On the top surface is the remains of a cuttting for a votive statue.
