[1] This is a semi-circular base for a small stone statuette, dedicated by one Pauleina after recovering from a fever. Curbera in IG II³ 4 counts this among the dedications to Asklepios, in which case the findspot might indicate that it derived from the hypothesised sanctuary of Asklepios and Hygieia within the City Eleusinion (on which see SEG 44.79 with notes), but there were several other healing deities in Athens to whom it might have been dedicated. On top of the base, the feet of the statuette and part of an animal skin are preserved, suggesting that it depicted Herakles or Dionysos (the latter being more appropriate if it was originally dedicated in the Eleusinion). The letter forms and orthography indicate a date in the second century AD. It was deposited – broken – in a storage jar in the 'Late Roman gymnasium' in the Agora in the fifth century AD.
