[and crown him with a gold] [crown according to the] law;^[1] and he shall have priority seating (proedrian) in the competitions which the Rhamnousians put on;^[2] and [inscribe] this decree on two stelai and (5)stand one in the sanctuary of Dionysos and the other in the sanctuary of Nemesis; and the managers (epimelētas) shall allocate for the inscribing and making of the stelai whatever expenditure may be incurred. 2 inscribed crowns

[1] This fragment from the bottom of an honorific decree was first published in I Rhamnous, where it is dated no more closely than to the 3rd cent. BC. Knoepfler (without autopsy, but with a photograph) suggests that it may be from the bottom of the same inscription as I Rhamnous 50, largely on the grounds of the similarity of the lettering and the fact that this fragment would seem to belong to a decree honouring a man of some importance (e.g. unusually, two copies are to be erected) which would suit that inscription. However, there is no physical join, and while this is clearly from a deme decree, I Rhamnous 50 is apparently from a decree of soldiers based at Rhamnous (note especially ll. 25-28 of that inscription; note also, however, that there can be some lack of clarity at Rhamnous as to the body passing a decree, e.g. I Rhamnous 17). The association is accordingly inconclusive. The similarity of the lettering, however, suggests that the inscriptions date to around the same period. [2] This phrase normally refers to competitions at the deme Dionysia, but Csapo and Wilson note that in this case competitions at the Nemesia festival will also be intended (cf. I Rhamnous 7 and 98; I Rhamnous 121 and 122 may be from the proedria in the sanctuary of Nemesis). For the Dionysia at Rhamnous, the theatre and surviving thrones in the proedria cf. IG II³ 4, 969; for the deme Dionysia generally, IG II³ 4, 498.
