[1] This is a dedication to Zeus Hypsistos, sometimes referred to simply as Hypsistos (“The All High”), on behalf of Zopyra and Anthesterios, or possibly Zopyra daughter of Anthesterios, who are not identifiable. It is one of a number of imperial period dedications to Zeus Hypsistos deriving probably from the former site of the Athenian Assembly on the Pnyx. For other such dedications see AIUK 4.5 no. 13, with notes. Many of them take the form of anatomical votives. However, this example takes the shape of a cylindrical base. It is decorated with a garlanded ox-head (boukranion), as is another dedication to Hypsistos, IG II³ 4, 1268. For more detail on this monument see AIUK 2 (BSA) no. 7.
