The Teithrasians decided;^[1] - proposed: to crown the councillors of the archonship (5)of Aristophanes (331/0) or Aristophon (330/29) with a golden crown, each of them, since they managed well and with love of honour (philotimōs) the (10)sacrifices and the other things that the demesmen [urged] them to do. [1] Textual Note D. Whitehead, Demes 187, plausibly suggests that, as at SEG 24.151, 21-22, and 153, 6-8, this decree was to be set up "in the Koreion", [στῆσα]ι ἐν τῶ|[ι Κορείωι] (20-21).

This decree honouring its councillors for the year 331/0 or 330/29 BC is from the medium-small deme of Aigeis in central Attica towards the east coast, Teithras (in the coastal trittys, Traill, Demos and Trittys, 1986, the inland trittys in Political Organization of Attica, 1975). As this decree shows, it sent 4 men to the Council in the fourth century BC (the number is confirmed by IG II³ 4, 76, 54-58, and Agora XV 42, 81-85). Apart from this decree, there is also a very fragmentary 4th-century sacrificial calendar from this deme, SEG 21.542, and a series of three inscribed documents on a single stele relating to deme leases, SEG 24.151, 152, and 153. The deme was also perhaps the seller of (at least?) two properties in the public land-sale programme of the Lykourgan period, Rationes Centesimarum, F3A, 1-10, one of them bought by Phyleides son of Blepyros of Teithras, perhaps the son of our councillor (13-14; Blepyros also proposed SEG 24.153), jointly with a man from Pithos (?). The other property was at Teithras and was bought by a single buyer who was son of a Diphilos. This is the only decree of a deme honouring its representatives on the Council, and ll. 9-12 are of interest in implying that a deme might make specific requirements of its councillors, though it is not clear that these took the form of instructions to argue or vote in a specific way. The nature of the sacrifices the four men were required to make, e.g. whether they were in a local or city context, and whether regular or specific to this occasion, is obscure.
