[1] Textual Note Found in 1936 and not accessible to the editors of IG I³, this fragment has now been rediscovered in the National Museum of Athens and republished in a thorough new edition by E. Kourinou, Horos 17-21 (2004-2009) [2010], 23-30 (ph.) (SEG 59.59). Kourinou's text differs substantially from the IG text, which e.g. included no reference to hieropoioi ("religious officials"). We print and translate Kourinou's text in AIO, and the reader may wish to compare it with the IG text, to which there is a link in the references. I have not seen the stone, but work I did on this inscription before its rediscovery, based on the old photograph, led me to the view that it was perhaps a locally inscribed account of the Treasurers of the Other Gods. This very fragmentary inscription, apparently containing paradosis accounts (recording the handing over of responsibility for contents of a temple from one set of officials to their successors, see IG II³ 1, 898 n. 1), discovered in the so-called "priest's house" a little way from the temple of Apollo Zoster at Halai Aixonides, probably relate to that temple. It is notable that the Athenians named are from demes other than Halai, and this is consistent with the fact that, although the cult seems to have been supervised by the deme (RO 46), Apollo Zoster was one of the cults for which the central Athenian "Treasurers of the Other Gods" were responsible (IG I³ 369, l. 67), though those treasurers were created, it seems, in 434/3 BC (IG I³ 52) and may or may not have existed at the time of this inscription. Hieropoioi are otherwise firmly attested in the deme of Halai Aixonides only in the early-3rd cent. decree from the sanctuary of Aphrodite, SEG 49.141, though they were initially also restored in SEG 59.142 , ll. 9-10.
