Honours for the Council, councillors and Council officials

The Council in the archonship of Pythodotos (343/2)[1] dedicated
to Hephaistos, having been crowned by the People
for its excellence and justice.
Decree 3[2] Deinostratos son of Deiniades of Ankyle proposed: since the Council in the archonship of Pythodotos (343/2) resolved to make a judgement of those speaking in the Council in the ninth
(5) prytany and to honour the man who seemed to it to have spoken and acted best and incorruptibly on behalf of the Athenian Council and People throughout the year, and since the Council voted
about this and chose Phanodemos son of Diyllos of Thymaitadai, the Council shall decide: for the good fortune of the Athenian People and Council, to praise Phanodemos son of Diyllos of Thymaitadai
for his excellence and justice towards the Athenian Council and People and to crown him with a gold crown of 500 drachmas; and the money for the
crown shall come from the Council’s fund for expenditure on decrees; and those elected to make the dedication of the Council shall also inscribe this resolution on the dedication; and in order that
the People may know what the Council has resolved about Phanodemos, and may itself honour and crown him if the People share the Council’s opinion, the presiding committee (proedrous) allotted to preside
(10) in the People at the next Assembly shall put the subject of Phanodemos on the agenda, and the secretary to the People (grammatea tōi dēmōi) shall read out this decree and submit to the People the opinion of the Council, that
it seems good to the Council, since Phanodemos son of Diyllos of Thymaitadai has held office as councillor well and with love of honour (philotimōs)[3] and incorruptibly, and has spoken and acted excellently on behalf of
the Athenian Council and People and the allies, to praise him for his excellence and justice towards the Athenian Council and People and the allies, and crown him with a
gold crown of 1,000 drachmas when he has rendered his accounts;[4] and the money for the crown shall come from whatever source the People decides; and in order that everyone else or all other officials may also be aware that
the People and Council know how to give thanks to those who speak and act excellently on behalf of the Council and the People,[5] the prytany secretary (grammatea ton kata prutaneian) (15) shall inscribe this decree on a stone stele and stand it on the acropolis; and the treasurer of the People shall give 20 or 30 drachmas for inscribing the stele from the People’s fund
for expenditure on decrees.

Decree 2[2] Phanodemos son of Diyllos of Thymaitadai proposed: . . . . . . that the Council shall elect immediately . . . . . . as it seems best to them . . . to set up the statue . . . (20) . . . to Hephaistos and Athena Hephaistia; and to inscribe on it . . . the councillors with their father’s name and deme . . . . . . for the health and preservation of the Athenian Council and People; and also to inscribe on it the decree by which the Council was crowned
by the People at the Assembly in the theatre of Dionysos (en Dionusou),[6] when it was deemed that they had managed [public order (eukosmias)] well at the festival of Dionysos
[in the city].
Decree 1[2] Kephisophon son of Kallibios of Paiania proposed: since the Council in the archonship of Pythodotos (343/2) managed
(25) public order (eukosmias) in the theatre well and justly, to praise it and crown it with a gold crown of 500 drachmas; and the treasurers specified in the law shall immediately give
50 drachmas for a sacrifice to the councillors who are deemed to have best managed public order (eukosmias).
Decree 4[7] - son of Antikrates of Pambotadai proposed: for good fortune, the Council shall resolve: since Eudoxos son of Theangelos of Sypalettos, who was elected to manage the Council's administration (dioikēseōs), did so well and justly, and otherwise ensured the [orderly operation (eukosmias)] of the Council with the prytanies (prutaneōn) in office at any time, to praise him and crown him with a gold
(30) crown of 500 drachmas when he has rendered his accounts; and in order that the crown may be made and the award
of the Council may be evident, the Council shall immediately elect five men to have the crown made; and the treasurers
shall give the money from the Council’s fund for expenditure on decrees; and to inscribe this decree
on the dedication of the Council in the archonship of Pythodotos (343/2).

Decree 5[7] Brachyllos son of Bathyllos of Erchia proposed: since Eudoxos managed well and justly those things which the Council assigned to him,
both the Council's administration (dioikēseōs) and its orderly operation (eukosmias) with the prytanies (prutaneōn) in office at any time, and
(45) gave the best advice throughout, the Council shall decide: to praise Eudoxos son of Theangelos of Sypalettos for his excellence and
justice towards the Council and crown him with a gold crown of 500 drachmas when he has rendered his accounts; and the
money for the crown shall be contributed by each of the councillors; and he shall also be permitted to obtain from the People whatever benefit
he can; and to inscribe this decree on the dedication of the Council in the archonship of Pythodotos (343/2); [and for inscribing and] making the . . .
