[1] This marble lekythos (cf. no. 44) in the British Museum was aquired by Lord Elgin (cf. AIUK 4.1, no. 2). It had been recorded previously at a Greek school near the Megali Panagia Church within the Library of Hadrian. A standing male figure, Pamphilos, takes the hand (dexiosis, cf. no. 26) of his sister Archippe, who is seated on a stool (diphros). Many members of this family are known from a series of monuments which may all have been set up in a single peribolos in the Kerameikos. The family originates from the coastal deme of Aigilia, northwest of Mount Olymbos at modern Phoinikia. For more detailed discussion of the inscription see AIUK 4.6 (BM, Funerary Monuments), no. 56.
