[1] This dedication, once at Athens in the possession of the wife of a Dr. Patrikios, perhaps derives from the city sanctuary of Artemis Kolainis, on which see IG II³ 4, 1069 and 1744. Alternatively, it may be from the Patrikios family estate near Eretria (cf. D. Knoepfler, Antike Kunst 33, 1990, 126-7 = SEG 40.1608). No other anatomical votives are attested among Attic dedications to Artemis Kolainis, but note the votive of two breasts offered at Athens to Kalliste, a form of Artemis, IG II³ 4, 965. On this genre of dedication, associated in Attica particularly with, but not limited to, the sanctuary of (Zeus) Hypsistos on the Pnyx, see IG II³ 4, 1255, with notes, cf. AIUK vol. 4.5, pp. 68-70; Parker, Polytheism, 411-15. The wording of IG II³ 4, 1069 and 1744 perhaps also implies a healing function for Artemis Kolainis.
