[1] This is a dedication by the prytany of Pandionis, which had won the competition for the best prytany in its year in office, as IG I³ 515 (Erechtheis) and IG II³ 4, 21 (Pandionis). In 357/6 BC dedications by officials begin to mention explicitly that they commemorate crowning by the Council/People (cf. IG II³ 4, 57, IG II³ 4, 245, both of 357/6 BC). The same development is observable in dedications by the Council itself (cf. IG II³ 4, 2, also of 357/6 BC) and by Council prytanies. This is the earliest dated prytany dedication in which the wording occurs (see also IG II³ 4, 26). [2] While some prytany registers appear to order the demes according to trittyes (e.g. IG II³ 4, 23, 25, 26 etc.), this one is unusual in that the trittyes are actually mentioned (see also IG II³ 4, 53). Paiania was the inland trittys, Kydathenaion the urban trittys and Myrrhinous the coastal trittys; cf. Traill, Demos and Trittys, 1986, 129-30, and on the arrangement of the trittyes of the prytanies, see IG II³ 4, 26 with note.
